Why Should Health Care Be Given High Priority?

Now-a-days people are facing various health problems due to the inappropriate health care taken in their hectic and busy life. This calls for a need to provide appropriate healthcare for everyone. An average American is not able to afford the skyrocketing hospital charges and the amount spent on health care is much higher than any other expenses.

Studies reveal that the expenditure on health care in 2002 reached to a whopping $1.6 trillion. This doesn’t mean that people have a lot of money to spend on health care but this gives a picture of the percentage of amount being spent from their income towards the medical expenses. In general, one can say that ‘medical bills just keep eating people’s money away’. This condition would really hurt the people’s mind-set which might result in dire consequences.

The only solution for this situation is to make health care affordable. Many companies voluntarily are working to solve this issue in their own ways. One such company which is majorly focusing on providing affordable health care is Ameriplan. As a part of this initiative, Ameriplan has started discount plans which help every individual save up to 80% of the medical expenses. Ameriplan discount plans provide services such as dental care, vision care, and chiropractic care and prescription drugs at a lowest cost ranging from $19.95 a month that covers whole family. Many more benefits are said to be provided by Ameriplan which aim at reducing the costs incurred towards health care. One thing to be remembered is that Ameriplan discount plans are not insurance, in fact they are much more than insurance.

Knowing More About Injections for Low Back Pain

Dealing with lower back pain can be tough for some patients. At times, the pain is hard to manage, and painkillers might not be the right solution. Depending on the facts of the case, doctors may use epidural steroid injections. In this post, we will discuss some of the aspects of such injections in detail.

What’s an epidural steroid injection?

The use of injections for low back pain is limited to certain cases, but this is certainly one of the many ways to treat chronic pain. An epidural steroid injection essentially contains an anesthetic drug for pain relief with a corticosteroid. For the uninitiated, corticosteroid is a form of steroids known to have anti-inflammatory benefits. The injection helps in reducing the pressure from the nerves and surrounding areas and muscles, which can offer considerable respite, while the painkiller ensures immediate relief. Corticosteroids may work independently for pain relief, but since most patients want immediate effects, an anesthetic medicine is used.

Knowing the procedure

Please note that you cannot ask your doctor for epidural steroid injections. Unless the patient has stopped responding to nonsurgical treatments, doctors don’t try ESIs. In most cases, certain imaging tests are done, so as to find the right spot where the nerve roots at pressed or have a problem. In some cases, a x-ray machine may be used by the doctor, just to find the right point where the needle must be placed.

The need for epidural steroid injections

Typically, epidural steroid injections are used as the last resort to offer pain relief, especially in cases of extreme pain, often related to a condition known as “lumbar spinal stenosis”. This condition mainly starts from the lower spine and often spreads to the legs. There is limited information on how these injections may work in the long run, but like most steroid injections, this too offers relief for the next few weeks. It is always best to talk to your doctor, who can suggest more details in this regard. However, in cases of lumbar spinal stenosis, other treatments are tried and used as well.

What are the side effects?

There can be a few side effects with ESIs, but that varies from case to case. In most cases, the focus is on reducing the pain, so the minimal adverse effects are ignored. However, if you have issues with breathing or have swelling on your facial area, do contact your doctor immediately. There can be some pain at the injection site, but if that doesn’t subside in the next couple of days, check with your doctor. For immediate swelling at the injection site, you can use ice, which will also offer some relief from the associated pain.

Pain management clinics have a lot of information on epidural steroid injections. If you need to know more about lumbar spinal stenosis, you should consult a doctor at the earliest. With early intervention, other treatments may work more effectively for you, but it also depends on how you respond to the standard treatment plans.

The Tips for Flu Prevention

The Tips for Flu Prevention

1. Get vaccinated.
The best way to prevent oneself from contracting the flu is to get a shot. It will not give the person the flu. It will likely keep the person from getting it. If they do; however, it will be a more mild case than if they had not gotten vaccinated.

2. Wash hands frequently.
For those who come in contact with surfaces in public places, particularly those with high traffic, frequent hand washing will help reduce the risks of contracting the illness. Use warm, soapy water and wash hands vigorously for a minimum of 20 seconds. Rinse well and use a clean towel or air dryer to dry them thoroughly. Use the towel to turn off the faucet, when possible.

3. Do not touch the face.
People should refrain from touching their faces with their hands, especially after coming in contact with a frequently used surface.

4. Be a preventive employer.
Employers should encourage their workers to get a flu shot. Contacting medical staffing agencies to set up in-house flu vaccinations will lower the risk of employees contracting the flu and will prevent them from having to leave the premises to get the shot.

5. Stay home sick.
Employees with the flu should stay home when they are sick, rather than come to the office and cause customers and other employees to contract the virus.

6. Avoid close personal contact.
Keep a safe distance from people who are ill with the flu. Those who are sick should make a conscious effort to stay away from others when they believe they have the virus.

7. Know the risks.
Take the flu virus seriously. More than 36,000 people die from influenza each year. About 14,000 are hospitalized with complications from the illness.

8. Know the symptoms.
There are many different signs and symptoms of the flu. When a few are present, consult a medical health care or home elder care provider for an examination. Watch for sudden, severe onset of headache and/or extreme exhaustion. A fever between 102 and 104 degrees F can last from 3 to 4 days. Other possible symptoms may include coughing, sneezing, sore throat, runny nose and muscle aches.

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Recovery Testimonial

In 1989 I was medically diagnosed with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, due to chemical poisoning from pesticides such as 245-T, Network, Roundup, Asulox and Malathian and heavy metal poisoning from Mercury (due to toxicity from amalgam fillings in my teeth), aluminium and lead.

After consultations with many doctors, specialists and natural health therapists, including Homeopaths and Acupuncturists, I was told that I would never regain normal health again due to the length of time I had been ill with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis. At that time, I wasn’t able to work, couldn’t sleep at night, had no energy and reacted to almost everything I ate!

I was getting pretty desperate at that stage to get my health, life and career back to normal when I met Philip Rafferty while he was doing allergy testing in a health food store. As I already knew of my allergies, I thought I would put him to the test. You can imagine my surprise when in a couple of minutes of using Kinesiology; he was able to correctly identify what my allergies were.

My life at that time had been a real struggle. I had just undergone two years of medical treatment and was taking all the right remedies and nutrition; however, I was still suffering from extreme fatigue, hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar), chronic Candida, food allergies, poor concentration, short term memory loss, acne and had very little energy. I then decided to have several Kinesiology treatments, and to my surprise, I started feeling much better.

Kinesiology Got Rid Of My Allergies, Lots Of Health Issues And My Myalgic Encephalomyelitis
To help me understand, Philip explained that Kinesiology encompasses holistic health disciplines that use gentle manual muscle monitoring to obtain information about a person’s well-being. It may assist with pain, stress, allergies, TMJ problems, toxicity, heavy metals, candida, dehydration, learning, sabotages, and more. Kinesiology realigned the muscles in my body, and as the muscles are connected with the organs, puts the organs back into balance, and this allowed my body to assimilate nutrition and water properly. He said that by putting the muscles back into balance, that my body would be able to heal itself from Myalgic Encephalomyelitis.

While my muscles were out of balance, my body was using up all its energy just trying to function on a basic level, therefore leaving me with no energy to do anything else. After several Kinesiology treatments my food allergies reduced, my blood sugar came back to normal, the severe cystic acne on my face cleared dramatically, I started to gain weight and I had a lot more energy.

Amazing Results Recovering From Myalgic Encephlomylitis Lead Me To A New Career
At the time of seeing Philip Rafferty he started teaching Kinergetics, a new modality of Kinesiology here in Melbourne, Australia and asked me if I would be interested in learning this for myself. After having such amazing results and a full recovery from Myalgic Encephalomyelitis due to Kinesiology, I was curious to find out how it actually worked and why.

I found learning Kinergetics absolutely fascinating. After completing the whole series of eight levels of Kinergetics, I then trained to become a Kinergetics Instructor and began teaching Kinergetics in 1994.

Always interested to learn and grow more, I went on to attain a “Diploma on Health Sciences in Holistic Kinesiology” at the Kinesiology College for Energetic Sciences in Carlton, Melbourne, Australia.

I love practicing and teaching Kinesiology and Kinergetics, and seeing the life-changing results in my clients and mentoring students. I continue to work using my Kinesiology skills and knowledge using Transformation Coaching working with many people all around the world.

I work with clients with a broad range of issues relating to Myalgic Encephalomylitis, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Lyme Disease including resolving allergies, candida, heavy metal toxicity, emotional issues, stress, pain, TMJ, dehydration, sabotage and much more.

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Pros and Cons

Within the last few years there as been an aggressive push on the part of government, professional organizations, and other authorities to institute a uniform EMR system. This includes generous subsidies allocated by recent legislation and mandatory legal requirements to occur in the next few years. As a practicing and academic physician with a masters degree in public health, I would like to briefly note some observations.

Intuitively, a uniform, easily accessible EMR seems like a very good idea. In fact, one of my major difficulties in practice occurs when a new patient arrives without copies of previous diagnostic studies or lists of medications. This is compounded in an incapacitated or elderly individual with many medical conditions and medications, and when there is a language barrier. Such patients may have great difficulty, or be incapable of, relaying this information to the new physician. To go online and immediately retrieve it would be very helpful indeed.

However, in these days of lower reimbursement and higher practice volumes, time spent imputing information may be time spent away from patient care. You may have experienced a visit where your doctor, using an EMR, has his eyes and hands on the computer much more than on you. I personally have accompanied relatives to physicians and emergency rooms where the doctor spent almost no time talking to, or examining the patient but instead sat in front of the computer, recording or retrieving information.

Also, these electronic records include templates where “check off” of existing information, rather than recording of original information is involved. This helps improve physician reimbursement by conforming with insurance company guidelines for level of service. It does little, however, to record the doctor’s thought processes or enhance the necessary medical information provided by this specific physician.

Don’t get me wrong. Good information is a good thing. But, it must be good for the patient and not just there to satisfy an insurance company. Also, it must contribute to, not detract from, the overall quality of care.

Professional Health Management

A career in health care management requires advanced education. A person needs at least a bachelor’s degree for an entry-level position. Smaller companies and organizations will probably accept a bachelor’s degree. However, larger organizations usually prefer a person with more education. A Master’s degree is the best choice for the most opportunity, though. The more education a person has the more opportunity. In addition, many positions require on-going education in order to stay current in the medical field.

Health care management professionals can find work throughout the health field. They can work everywhere from hospitals to nursing centers to health insurance companies. This is a large field with plenty of opportunity. The healthcare field is always changing and growing, so a person choosing a career in health care management is sure to find a great job.

Health care management professionals have an array of job duties. They handle everything from patient needs to finances to operations. They play a crucial role in how patients benefit from the health care system. They also help to educate the public about the health care system and current health care concerns. Health care management professionals ensure that the health care system for which they work runs smoothly and offers the best care possible.

Health care management is a growing career within the medical field. There are many options for a person with a degree in health care management. Health care management professionals play an important role in keeping the health care system moving along.

Natural Health Courses

Natural health courses may be something you want to consider if you are interested in a natural health career. I was interest in attending a natural health college because I want to help people and I enjoy new and different approaches to healthcare. Some of the courses I read seemed to be very difficult so I might be in over my head here. I found out that some schools offer courses in Chinese natural health care. The Chinese seem to have the answers for all the ills with natural remedies.

There are many courses to choose from and take so I like the options and there is a great potential to succeed when and if I ever graduate. I will be a high school senior this coming year so I have time to decide what my college will be. I’m not sure what my career would be though I thought about becoming a massage therapist one day. When you see the course schedule it’s overwhelming because the amount of education involved.

I noticed the amount of people who are enrolled in those types of natural health schools isn’t that much so maybe I will have a better chance to land a job after I graduate. I might change my mind between now and when I graduate from high school but the chances are I will likely still be interested. Natural health courses seem as if they will be a challenge but I know if I am committed I can do it.

Health Care For Everyone; What is the Incentive to live a Healthy Life?

If everyone gets free health care what is the incentive to live a healthy life, eat right and work out every day? Why bother? After all if there is free health care for everyone why not just wait to you have a medical problem and then go get fixed, why bother to work out? Why bother to walk around the block every day; why bother to jog?

Do you see the problem with universal health care in the United States of America paid for by the government and our tax dollars? The entire idea is flawed. Personally I don’t want to pay for people who do not take care of themselves, do not exercise, abuse alcohol and drugs and eat crappy foods.

That is not fair to me and I should not have to pay for them. They don’t care so, why should I? And why should my taxes go up so people that don’t take care about themselves can abuse yet another government social program? Now you are probably saying; yet you Republicans; always complain about taxes and you never have a solution.

Well I say to you, I do have a solution and it is a really simple one; let’s give tax incentives for people who exercise, eat right and do not do drugs or abuse alcohol. Let’s reward people for getting back in shape and in the long run we will be Bucks ahead with a whole lot less people in our population with major medical issues down the road.
